History

Krishi Vigyan Kendra took its birth at Ambalavayal, Wayanad, a district that is best known for the wildlife reserves which is home to an exquisite variety of flora and fauna that is ecologically rich yet fragile and it is a replete with waterfalls, historical caves and the hub of agri-eco tourism. Wayanad in Kerala is famous for its spice plantations and wildlife with two pioneer agricultural institutions under Kerala Agricultural University viz., Regional Agricultural Research Station  and Krishi Vigyan Kendra. KVK commenced as a project of Kerala Agriculture University in October 1982. The ICAR recognised the Kendra in 1984 and thereafter it is completely funded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and nomenclatured as ICAR-KVK of KAU.
